Locations

Rappelling / Abseiling

Trælanípan

Level: Trained

Trælanípan, which means the Slave's Peak, is a 142 m high peak where the old, and lazy slaves where thrown off in the olden days. It's from this locations the famous picture of the "floating lake" or the "lake above the ocean" is taken. What makes this rappel/abseil so special, is that you don't have any contact to the cliffs for about 80 meters of the trip down, while the boat is waiting below to pick you up.

The hike starts in the village Miðvágur. Duration of activity 2-4 hours.

Múlafossur, Gásadalur

Probably the most famous motif in the Faroe Islands is "Múlafossur" in Gásadalur. This allows you to go down beside the scenic waterfall. You will land safely onboard a boat which will take you back to land.

We're meeting at the waterfall in the village Gásadalur. Duration of activity is 1 hour.

Hiking

Hike through Ravnagjógv

Level: Intermediate

Hiking through Ravnagjógv can be challenging and adventurous.

It's a 600 m long gorge were you need to climb and scramble to reach the end.

It's also possible to combine the hike with rappelling/abseiling in the same gorge.

Niðan í Gjógv

Level: Intermediate

The good thing about this location is only a few locals know about it, and the view at the location is breathtaking.
It looks like something from The Lord Of The Rings.

The hike starts in the village Gásadalur. Duration of the hike 2-3 hours.

Drangarnir

Level: Intermediate/Expert

This is a long hike. But the view of Sørvágsfjord, the sea cliffs on the south side of Sørvágur, at the end when we reach Drangarnir (meaning Sea Stacks), and Tindhólmur (The Peak Islet) is worth every step of the hike.

The hike starts in the village Sørvágur. Duration of the hike is 4-6 hours.

Niðan á Egg

Level: Beginner

This is a hidden gem when it comes to hiking. This hike is short and easy. The view is breathtaking over the seastacks Dunnes drangarnir. Close to this location villagers in Sørvágur used to hide from pirates in a cave called Fransaholan meaning "The French cave" given that name because some of the pirates who robbed the village were French.

The hike starts in the village Sørvágur. Duration of the hike 2-3 hours.

Old Postman Route to Gásadalur

Level: Intermediate

Hiking in the footsteps of where the post officers used to hike 3 times a week until the tunnel came to the village in 2006. On our way we will meet the Fountain of Youth, and see the footprint where the giant jumped from Gásadalur to Mykines, and other historical things. We will enjoy the view over the valley before we go down to the village.

The hike starts in the village Bøur. Duration of the hike is 2-3 hours.

Lake Sørvágsvatn/Leitisvatn, Trælanípan, and Bøsdalafossur

Level: Intermediate/Beginner

On this hike we depart from Sørvágsvatn, the largest freshwater lake in the Faroe Islands - also called Leitisvatn. From there we go to Trælanípan, "The Slave's Peak" where old and lazy slaves were thrown off in the old days. The view from Trælanípan is known for "the floating lake" or "the lake above the ocean" illusion. After Trælanípan, we hike to the waterfall, Bøsdalafossur, to see where it meets the North Atlantic ocean. After that we will hike back to where we started.

The hike starts in the village Miðvágur. Duration of the hike 3-4 hours.

Krosstindur, Húsafelli and Malinstindur

Level: Intermediate/Expert

These 3 mountain tops, are my favorite hike in the Faroe Islands. The hike starts with the great view over Trøllkonufingur. Then it goes up to the top of Krosstindur - 574 m. From Krosstindur we hike to Húsafelli - 591 m - and at last, we are summiting the highest mountain of the village, Malinstindur - 683 m. On our hike we will see some historic locations, such as ruins from hideouts villagers used to evade pirates.

This village is the former home of 17 Faroese Prime Ministers, and they used to own this part of the land.

The hike starts in the village Sandavágur. Duration of the hike is 4-6 hours.

Bear in mind that there are some steep places, and we have to do some light climbing.

Heinanøva and Árnafjall

Level: Intermediate/Expert

Árnafjall is the highest moutain on Vágar, it is quite trickey to find the phat up to Heinanøva, and Árnafjall. In the middle of Heinanøv there is a huge gorge with hundreds of fullmars flying arround. And the view from Árnafjall on a clear day is breathtaking.

The hike starts in the village Gásadalur. Duration of the hike is 3-4 hours.

Imagine falling asleep with the sunset, and waking up to the view of Tindhólmur, Gáshólmur and Mykines.
What makes this camping area even more special is you don't share this area with anyone else.

Fjallavatn

What is better than getting away from all the worries and distractions? At Fjallavatn you will be completely unplugged and immersed into the Faroese nature. Just you and nature.
